04 - Are you curious about the Boat? Me too!

I’m supposed to talk about the boat, but I know nothing about it, so I’m asking Dad.

Many big ships go to Antarctica, but we are going on a small sailboat, and it has to be strong to go to Antarctica. Typical sailboats made of fiberglass would break, so ours is metal! -while I typed this, the rock emoji came up, hahaha- The name of the boat is ‘Kotik’ and it was built by Oleg, who was the father of Igor, our captain. Kotik was built in Brazil, in a city called ‘Dois Córregos’ which is about 3 hours from where I was born.

Kotik is 63 feet long, and made of 1-inch steel, and can take about 10 people. My dad said the boat's really warm. -YIPEEE- There are 4 cabins; including the captain's, so me, Mom, and Marina will sleep in one room, my Dad and Jair in another, Tia Jace and Tio Rodrigo -my dad's cousins, amazing people by the way- in a different cabin, and the captain and his wife get the captain's quarters. There's also a bunk bed where Scott, Igor's helper, is going to sleep. The beds are very small, so we don’t roll from one side to the other, and they have something like a curtain so you don’t fall off the bed. I think it's going to be like a baby crib, but moving on.

The boat has two bathrooms, one for the captain, the other for the rest of us. One of the boat's biggest problems is the water because we only have 1000 liters of fresh water to use, and refilling in Antarctica is hard because you need to find a clean stream, which is a hard task since penguins are pooping everywhere. With this water problem, we can only shower every three days. -YAY I DON'T HAVE TO SHOWER EVERY DAY

!!!- but don’t get scared because in Antarctica, we don’t sweat, and we have wet wipes to sort of keep us hygienic.

Other than all that, there's a small galley -AKA, food court-, since there's no supermarket in Antarctica, we have to bring all our food, but that's a different story.

That's it for today! Remember to subscribe, with one month away from the trip! Have a great rest of your day/night!

Oi Clara! The boat looks amazing! It can be small compared to a large cruise ship, but it is a large sailboat. You guys are going to have a great time!
